Theatrical Vs. Streaming
“One Will Fall” promises the poster for Godzilla Vs. Kong, Warner Bros.’ $155 million-budgeted monster-mash that began stomping across theatres in 38 countries this week ahead of its day-and-date smackdown in U.S. cinemas and on HBO Max on March 31. The metaphor seems almost too obvious: this clash of titans is a winner-takes-all proxy battle between yesterday’s exhibition dinosaurs and tomorrow’s 800-ton streaming gorillas. But after months of heated snarling and chest-thumping between the two sides, it has now become clear that both can happily co-exist.
